Jonathan Mauro was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta and now along with his wife Kristin raise their family of 3 young children. He has worked with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools for the past 17 years, previously as a High School and Middle School Phys Ed and Outdoor Ed Teacher.

Currently, he is the Coordinator for the Indigenous education services team with Red Deer Catholic Schools. Jonathan has his Education and Physical Education undergrad degrees, his Masters in Educational Leadership and is currently a Ph. D candidate in the faculty of Elementary Education at the University of Alberta, where his research revolves around creating inclusive, developmentally appropriate, high quality school sporting programs. Other areas of his research interest surround wellness, outdoor education, whole child education, physical education and comprehensive school health. Jonathan has also been an executive member with the Alberta Teachers Associations (ATA), Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC), currently serving as the liaison with Alberta Schools Athletic Association(ASAA).

Within the community of Central Alberta Jonathan has coached and been part of numerous sport programs that include but not limited to coaching Sr. Men’s, High School, U-5 and Summer Games rugby teams, basketball, club volleyball, leading Rugby Alberta Coaching clinics and most recently U-9 female hockey.

Jonathan is excited to be part of Central Sport to create a positive impact on the communities of Central Alberta.
