KidSport

“Every child deserves the chance to play, belong, and grow through sport — KidSport makes that possible.”

KidSport Red Deer & County is a local volunteer-led chapter of the national KidSport network, established in 1996. Their mission is simple: to ensure that every child in Red Deer and surrounding communities has the opportunity to participate in organized sport—regardless of family finances.

What They Do

  • Grants for sport: They provide financial assistance of up to $250 per child per year (January 1–December 31) to help cover registration fees for kids aged 18 and under.

  • Equipment support: Through referrals to Sport Central, families can access necessary gear. For hockey players, our Oil Country Hockey Assist Program covers up to $750 per player, along with no‑cost equipment for eligible applicants.

Eligibility & How It Works

  • Grants are available to families meeting Statistics Canada’s Low Income Cut‑Off criteria.

  • Awarded funds are sent directly to sport organizations once applications—completed online or via paper—are approved. Processing takes up to 30 days.

Local Impact

100% of funds raised stay in our region—helping hundreds of local kids every year build confidence, leadership, teamwork skills, and lifelong healthy habits.
