My family moved to Red Deer from Calgary in 1982. I am the youngest of 3 kids, I have two older brothers. I went to RDC after high school and continued and completed my education at the University of Alberta. I have a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. My major was in Animal Sciences. Life brought me back to Red Deer after university where I found work at Olymel as Quality Assurance Administrator. Definitely an interesting job but wanting to make more of an impact I moved into a Meat Hygiene Inspection role with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. This role took me out of the plant and into the fields around Central Alberta for seed potato and crop inspections.
I met my husband on a whim when I attended a Speed Dating event at the Red Deer Lodge. We started dating soon after our first “date” and we married just over a year after meeting and we welcomed our first of three kids, Grace, almost 9 months after our wedding. I went back to my job at CFIA and two years later welcomed my son, Thomas, and two years after that we welcomed our son Evan. I never returned to working after Thomas was born as my purpose was caring for these three tenacious and precocious little people. The kids are now 14, 12(almost) and 9. They are all busy with sports and school and what a joy it is to see them grow and experience success and failure. Happy to be there for them to support them and mostly feed and drive them around.
I don’t think of myself as the most interesting person in the room, however I feel that I have a good grasp on what is important in life and I desire to set an example of community and leadership for my family.
